When do you need an energy label?
A valid energy label is mandatory when you sell, rent out or deliver a home in the Netherlands, and you must hand it to the buyer or tenant. Since 29 May 2026 this also applies to listed monuments. Read more in when is an energy label required?
- You are selling your home and your estate agent asks for a registered label.
- You rent out a home: the label also counts in the WWS points calculation.
- You added insulation, HR++ glass, a heat pump or solar panels and want your label to reflect it.
- Your current label is older than 10 years and has expired.
How it works: from request to registered label
- 1
Request
Request the label via our request form or call +31 85 060 7816. You get a fixed price upfront.
- 2
On-site inspection
A certified adviser visits the home and records insulation, glazing, ventilation, heating, hot water and any solar panels. Invoices for insulation work help you get a better result.
- 3
Calculation under NTA 8800
We calculate energy use per m² and determine the label class, from A++++ to G.
- 4
Registration and report
The label is registered in EP-Online, the official database. You receive the label and, where useful, concrete improvement tips.
Basic or detailed method?
For most existing homes the basic method is enough: it uses standard values where no evidence is available. The detailed method calculates with the actual properties of constructions and installations — useful after a major renovation, for complex homes or when you want the most accurate result. See basic or detailed method.
What determines your label class?
- Roof, wall and floor insulation
- Glazing and window frames (single, double, HR++, triple)
- Heating: gas boiler, hybrid or all-electric heat pump
- Ventilation and heat recovery
- Hot water, solar panels or solar water heater

Since May 2026: the redesigned energy label
Since 29 May 2026 the Dutch energy label has a new design under the EU directive EPBD IV. It shows more information, such as emissions and tailored measures, and adds an A0 class for zero-emission new buildings. Labels issued earlier remain valid.
